BDSM Groups Gone Wrong
My radio show was on BDSM Groups and Clubs. The show was Saturday night / Sunday morning, February 27th from 1:00 am – 2:00 am on KPFT 90.1 FM in Houston Texas.
A friend who lives in a small town attends several BDSM Groups, but there is a problem. The group leaders who run these groups are all male and only accept young attractive male Dominants and young attractive female submissives. It gets even worse; they feel a sense of pride when their submissive is injured during a play scene and has to be taken to the emergency room. The male Dominants rotate the submissives among the males.
Now I have seen many BDSM Groups. A BDSM Group has the following functions and qualities:
Provide education about BDSM activities.
Provide a safe environment.
Apply the principles of Safe, Sane, and Consensual.
Host play parties.
Hold munches or meetings.
Be a social network for people into the BDSM scene.
Put on accurate and knowledgeable BDSM demonstrations to teach new people.
Be open and accepting of alternative lifestyles.
Be responsible, honorable, and respectful.
The groups my friend describes sound more like a cult than a BDSM Group. Membership is restricted. The women are treated more like swingers to be abused by the men than as submissives. Men are not allowed to be submissive. Women are not allowed to be Dominant. If you are not attractive and young, you don’t get to attend play parties.
My friend is in the process of starting a new BDSM Group in her community that truly functions as a BDSM Group. Kudos to her.
After hearing her story, I decided to cover the story on my radio show. I am sure there are small communities where a few individuals have BDSM Groups and abuse the privilege of leadership. By educating the public about the roles and functions a BDSM Group is supposed to adopt, I hope individuals will take courage and start BDSM Groups that serve the community, not a few corrupt leaders. Corrupt leaders give all of those into BDSM, not just themselves, a bad image in mainstream society.
